Ole Miss - Black Jazz Band, 2007 Low To our high school days in 1952-53 at the high school Gooise in Bussum, the Netherlands, three classmates were furious interest in traditional jazz. I remember, along with Eduard Lodewijk and Rahusen (Bubbles) Verwoerd, we should listen to recordings of the twenties, King Oliver, Jelly Roll Morton and Louis Armstrong. We were also fascinated by the black bars of New Orleans revival of Bunk Johnson and George Lewis. Then, of course, our own Dutch Swing College popularJazz Band and the Han had created the sounds coming from the United Kingdom with Humphrey Lyttleton, and many of the Ken Colyer band, the Han-boom. We decided to start a jazz band. I remember the first time I played with Arent Nieuwkamp and my friend Jack Vincken primary school blues improvisation in the attic of our house, and everything seemed to work. We worked with Edward and Bubbles and soon our Black Jazz Band, Bass has had its beginning. Our theme song was Black Bottom Jelly Roll MortonStomp. I used to these 78 rpm disc on a small phonograph in the night under the covers in my bed.This not bother listening to anyone.
